Neuropsychological assessments are comprehensive evaluations conducted by a licensed clinical psychologist, using standardized cognitive, emotional, and behavioral tests. These assessments help diagnose a wide range of neurological, psychological, and developmental conditions in both children and adults. The process begins with a detailed intake and history, followed by testing sessions over 1 to 3 days, depending on individual needs and attention span. Afterward, the psychologist prepares a report with findings, treatment recommendations, and guidance for clinical and academic accommodations. The full process typically takes 2 to 4 weeks, after which results are reviewed with the family. Reports can also be shared with schools or care providers. A high-quality assessment does not need to be repeated for at least three years, avoiding test-retest bias.
Evaluations are ideal for children facing academic, behavioral, or emotional challenges, as well as for adults with concerns about memory, attention, or executive function. They help clarify diagnoses such as ADD/ADHD, learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders.
